The GreenAL project has officially announced the winners of its second call for grant proposals aimed at empowering environmental organizations in Albania. Six Regional Grants and twenty Initiative Grants have been awarded to civil society organizations (CSOs) for projects that will significantly enhance local capacities to tackle some of today’s most pressing environmental challenges. These projects empower communities to lead sustainable actions, advocate for environmental justice, and protect natural ecosystems. Each selected project embodies the transformative power of locally driven environmental action. These grants adopt a strategic and operational approach, aiming to strengthen collaboration between local government units, environmental organizations, and civil society.

During the dedicated ceremony that took place, Ms. Anila Bejko, Executive Director of Co-PLAN, emphasized in her opening remarks that:
“What connects all of these projects is not only their bold approach and passion for environmental and social justice, but also the commitment to building bottom-up solutions through the active participation of citizens, schools, youth, women, farmers, and all those who have often been left out of decision-making processes.”
Ms. Bejko further added that: “I invite you to see this starting point, this financial support you are receiving today, as something much bigger: as part of a growing ecosystem of civic engagement for the environment, where civil society, public institutions, schools, media, and citizens are no longer spectators, but direct actors in driving transformative change.”
Regional projects are aligned with the Green Agenda, designed to foster coordination among various actors and to complement other GreenAL-supported initiatives. Focused on grassroots-level impact, initiative grants provide direct support to CSOs, especially in rural and remote areas, to implement community-based environmental actions. Each initiative is led locally, promoting sustainability, education, advocacy, and innovation where it’s most needed.

This round of grants is part of GreenAL’s expanding effort to cultivate a culture of environmental responsibility, where civil society, institutions, and individuals work together. These projects not only address environmental degradation, but also foster civic ownership, nurture green leadership, and inspire systemic change across Albania.
