Monitoring

GreenAL aims to further intensify alternative pollution monitoring practices, previously supported during its first phase, to address the growing need for accurate information on urban greenery, air, noise, water and land pollution.

Via the second phase, GreenAL will continue the alternative monitoring of pollution in the environment through civil society organizations and the implementation of the concept of “citizen applied science”. This will be done to address, in an indicative and quantitative manner, air pollution, noise levels in urban areas, as well as the reduction of urban greenery and the quality of surface water and soil.

The collected data will be displayed on the existing Green Lungs platform, as an alternative and all-inclusive source for the monitoring and reporting of air quality, noise pollution and evaluation of the service provided by the urban green ecosystem. This collected data is to be considered complementary in the context of tracking and interpreting polluting factors in urban areas.

By  leveraging the efforts of civil society organizations and “citizen applied science” the collected data will be used to: raise public awareness, increase transparency, influence decision-making processes, influence environmental policies and contribute to reducing pollution levels in our cities.

Note: This type of monitoring does not include in any case the fulfillment of legal obligations and scientific methodologies, part of the laws on environmental monitoring. Any need for legal interpretation of the level of pollution will require the engagement of certified laboratories with equipment and personnel accredited in accordance with the rules and procedures in force from the General Directorate of Accreditation in Albania.
