In July, a significant fire broke out at the waste disposal site near the city center of Vlora, located in the southern region of Albania. This area, particularly popular during the summer season, is a major tourist destination. The fire, which persisted for several days, has sparked serious concerns about the potential environmental and public health impacts due to the release of harmful pollutants into the atmosphere. This incident is especially troubling as it highlights a recurring issue in the region.
In response, the GreenAL working group traveled to Vlora to monitor air quality and assess the possible consequences for both the community and the surrounding environment.
